N-에서/부터 ~ 까지 Lesson | From.. To

In this lesson, we’ll break each piece apart and learn how they function. We’ll also learn how to put them together to make useful phrases. You can scroll down to the bottom to juml straight into 에서/ 부터 ~ 까지.



Noun-에서 = From


Examples:

어디에서 왔어요?

(어디서)

Where are you from?


영국에서 왔어요.

I’m from the uk.


어느 나라에서 왔어요?

Which country did you come from?

어느 - which

나라 - country


집에서 3시에 나왔어요.

I left (from) home at 3 o’clock.


서울에서 몇 시에 출발할 거예요?

What time are you departing from Seoul?



Noun-부터 = from, since


Examples:

1시부터 공부해요. = I study from 1 o’clock; I‘ve been studying since 1


언제부터 시작해요? = (from) When do we start?


저는 어제부터 몸이 아팠어요. = I have been sick since yesterday


저는 내일부터 한국어를 공부할 거예요 = I‘m going to study Korean from tomorrow


에서 & 부터 can be used interchangeably.


However it is known that 부터 is USUALLY used with time and 에서 USUALLY with places.



Noun-까지 = until, to, by


Example:

한시까지 공부할 거예요.

I will study until 1.


내일까지 끝낼 거예요.

I will finish it by tomorrow.


지하철 역까지 같이 걸어가요.

Let’s walk together to the subway station.


저는 그 회사에서 오월까지 일할 거예요.

I will work at that company until May.



N에서 N까지

N부터 N까지


에서 and 부터 could be used interchangeably. Although 에서 is used mainly with locations and 부터 with times


Translation: From... to, From... until


Examples:

학교에서 집까지 걸어왔어요.

I walked (to) home from school


서울에서 부산까지 시간이 얼마나 걸려요?

How long does it take to get from Seoul to Busan?


오전 아홉시부터 오후 다섯시까지 일해요.

I work from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm


여기에서 학교까지 멀어요?

Is it far from here to school?


가: 이 도서관은 토요일에 문을 엽니까?

나: 네, 토요일은 오전 열시부터 오후 네시까지 엽니다


문을 열다 - the door is open / business is open


명동에서 동대문까지 어떻게 가요?

How do you get from Myeongdong to Dongdaemun?



PRACTICE SECTION:

Translate each sentence


1). From morning to evening


2). I work from the morning until the evening.


3). I walked (걸어오다) from the cafe to my friend’s house.


4). You can get from here to the library by bus


5). Please take the bus from the airport (공항) to the hotel (호텔) at 6:00 am.


6). It takes 20 mins to go from my home to the store.

걸리다 - to take (time)



7). She didn‘t talk to me from last October until this August.
