Quoting Questions - 냐고 하다 Lesson | He asked, She asked..

I made a lesson on 다고 하다 - How to make indirect quotes in Korean (He said, She Said, etc.)

If you haven’t yet, make sure you know all of those forms on quoting statements before looking at this lesson on how to quote questions.

USAGE:

냐고 하다 is used to quote one's question indirectly = (I/he/she) asked ...

How To Conjugate : PRESENT

Vst + (느)냐고 하다 = asked ...

가다 --> 가냐고 하다

*놀다 --> 노냐고 하다

먹다 --> 먹냐고 하다 = 먹느냐고 하다

Note: In modern day Korean usually just -냐고 is used. You can ignore the (느) part!

A + -(으)냐고 하다 = asked ...

춥다 --> 춥냐고 하다 = 추우냐고 하다

예쁘다 --> 예쁘냐고 하다

재미있다 --> 재미있냐고 = 재미있으냐고 하다

N +(이)냐고 하다 = asked ...

학생 --> 학생이냐고 하다

의사 --> 의사냐고 하다

How To Conjugate : PAST

Adj./Vst + 았/었/했냐고 하다 = asked ...

가다 --> 갔냐고 하다

놀다 --> 놀았냐고 하다

먹다 --> 먹었냐고 하다

How To Conjugate : FUTURE

Adj./Vst + 겠냐고 하다 = asked..

가다 --> 가겠냐고 하다

놀다 --> 놀겠냐고 하다

먹다 --> 먹겠냐고 하다

Example Sentences:

수지 씨가 매운 음식을 먹냐고 물어봤어요.

Suzy asked me do I eat spicy food.

(엄마: 어디에 가?)

엄마가 어디에 가냐고 했어요.

Mom asked where are you going?

(남자: 한국에 온지 얼마나 됐어요?)

한국에 온 지 얼마나 됐냐고 했어요.

He asked how long have you been in Korea?

(의사님: 어디가 아파요?)

의사님이 어디가 아프냐고 물어봤어요.

The doctor asked where does it hurt.

(여자: 남친이 대학생이에요?)

남친이 대학생이냐고 했어요.

She asked me if my bf is a college student.

민우가 (저에게) 한국이 예쁘냐고 했어요./ 물어봤어요.

Minwoo asked If Korea was pretty.

우리 아빠는 나에게 어디 가겠냐고 물어봤어.

My dad asked me where I will go.

1). Friend: Are you going back home today?

My friends asked am I going back home today.

2). I asked Moonbin if he ate dinner.

3). My boss always asks me am I working late. Everyday I tell him I can't, but he doesn't listen.

4). I asked Jimin does he sing well, but he said that he can't sing.

5). I asked if she was okay, and she said she is not okay.

6). Earlier I asked Melissa is today her birthday, and she told me that it’s not.

7). Korean people always ask why am I learning Korean.
