5 Difficult Korean Tongue Twisters to Improve Your Pronunciation

Today, I’d like to introduce some tongue twisters to you! Korean tongue twisters are a good way to practice and improve your pronunciation.



1). THE PEPERO CHALLENGE


Tongue Twister:

빼빼로 나라에 사는 빼빼 마른 빼빼로가 아몬드 빼빼로 나라에 사는 친구 안 빼빼 마른 빼빼로를 보고 "살 빼!" 하니까 안 빼빼 마른 빼빼로가 빼악빼악 화를 내며 빼빼로 나라로 돌아갔대요.


Romanization:

ppaeppaero narae saneun ppaeppae mareun ppaeppaeroga amondeu ppaeppaero narae saneun chingu an ppaeppae mareun ppaeppaeroreul bogo sal ppae hanikka an ppaeppae mareun ppaeppaeroga ppaeakppaeak hwareul naemyo ppaeppaero nararo doragatttaeyo.


English Translation:

Rough translation: A skinny Pepero living in the Pepero country saw a friend living in the Almond Pepero country and said, "Lose weight!" and the skinny Pepero returned to the Pepero country in anger.



2). THE ONE WITH THE BIRDS


Tongue Twister:

스위스에서 오셔서 산새들이 속삭이는 산림 숲속에서 숫사슴을 샅샅이 수색해 식사하고.


Romanization:

seuwisseueso osyoso sanssaedeuri sokssagineun salrim supssogeso sutssaseumeul satssachi susaekae sikssahago.


English Translation:

From Switzerland, they scoured and ate deer in the forest whispered by mountain birds.



3). BIG RABBIT, LITTLE RABBIT


Tongue Twister:

작은 토끼 토끼통 옆 큰 토끼 토끼통 큰 토끼 토끼통 옆 작은 토끼 토끼통.


Romanization:

jageun tokki tokkitong yop keun tokki tokkitong keun tokki tokkitong yop jageun tokki tokkitong.


English Translation:

Big rabbit house next to the little rabbit house. Little rabbit house next to the big rabbit house.



4). TIME TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY


Tongue Twister:

널 뜬 난 달 뜬 날 딴 나라로 떠날 따름이야.


Romanization:

nol tteun nan dal tteun nal ttan nararo ttonal ttareumiya.


English Translation:

When the moon rises, I'm just leaving for another country.



5). A SUPER LOOOOONG ONE


Tongue Twister:

안 촉촉한 초코칩 나라에 살던 안 촉촉한 초코칩이 촉촉한 초코칩 나라의 촉촉한 초코칩을 보고 촉촉한 초코칩이 되고 싶어서 촉촉한 초코칩 나라에 갔는데 촉촉한 초코칩 나라의 문지기가 “넌 촉촉한 초코칩이 아니고 안 촉촉한 초코칩이니까 안 촉촉한 초코칩 나라에서 살아”라고 해서 안 촉촉한 초코칩은 촉촉한 초코칩이 되는 것을 포기하고 안 촉촉한 초코칩 나라로 돌아갔다.


Romanization:

An chokchokan chokochip narae saldon an chokchokan chokochibi chokchokan chokochip narae chokchokan chokochibeul bogo chokchokan chokochibi dwego siposo chokchokan chokochip narae ganneunde chokchokan chokochip narae munjigiga non chokchokan chokochibi anigo an chokchokan chokochibinikka an chokchokan chokochip naraeso sararago haeso an chokchokan chokochibeun chokchokan chokochibi dweneun goseul pogihago an chokchokan chokochip nararo doragattta.


English Translation:

A non-moist chocolate chip cookie that lived in non-moist chocolate chip cookie land saw a moist chocolate chip cookie from moist chocolate chip cookie land and wanted to become a moist chocolate chip cookie and so went to moist chocolate chip cookie land, but the gate-keeper of moist chocolate chip cookie land said, “You are not a moist chocolate chip cookie, but a non-moist chocolate chip cookie, so live in non-moist chocolate chip cookie land,” so the non-moist chocolate chip cookie gave up on becoming a moist chocolate chip cookie and went back to non-moist chocolate chip cookie land.
