Birthday-related Korean Vocabulary List w/ examples


안녕하세요 리더님! Koreanstudyjunkie에서 Junie입니다~ I’ve made a short and sweet list of Korean birthday-related words.



VOCAB LIST:


생일 - birthday

생신 - birthday (honorific version)

미역국 - seaweed soup (a dish traditionally eaten on birthdays)

초대하다 - to invite

선물 - gift, present

풍선 - balloon

생일 파티 - b-day present

축하하다 - to celebrate

초 - candle

생일 케이크 = b-day cake

소원을 빌다 - make a wish



DIALOGUE:

This dialogue used all above words in context


A: 이번 주 토요일이 내 생일이야! 그래서 친구들을 집에 초대했어.


B: 와, 진짜? 미리 축하해!생일 파티도 하는 거야?


A: 응, 작은 생일 파티를 준비했어. 집도 풍선으로 꾸미고, 생일 케이크도 주문했어.


B: 좋다! 케이크 위에도 꽂을 거지?


A: 당연하지. 초를 불면서 소원을 빌 거야.


B: 완전 기대된다. 내가 갈 때선물도 가져갈게!


A: 고마워! 아, 그리고 우리 엄마가 아침에 미역국도 끓여 주신대.


B: 역시 한국 생일에는 미역국이지!


A: 맞아. 근데 이번에는 할머니도 오셔서 생신도 같이 축하하려고 해.


B: 오, 그럼 더 의미 있는 날이겠다. 할머니 생신도 진심으로 축하드려!


A: 고마워! 토요일에 꼭 와!


B: 당연하지, 갈게!

English Translation:

A: My birthday is this Saturday! So I invited my friends over to my place.


B: Oh really? Happy early birthday! Are you having a birthday party too?


A: Yeah, I prepared a small birthday party. I decorated the house with balloons and ordered a birthday cake.


B: Nice! You’re going to put candles on the cake too, right?


A: Of course. I’m going to make a wish while blowing out the candles.


B: I’m excited already. I’ll bring a gift when I come!


A: Thanks! Oh, and my mom said she’s going to make seaweed soup for me in the morning.


B: Of course — seaweed soup is a must for birthdays!


A: Right. And this time my grandmother is coming too, so we’re going to celebrate her birthday together.


B: Oh, then it’ll be even more meaningful. Please wish your grandmother a happy birthday for me!


A: Thanks! Make sure you come on Saturday!


B: Of course, I’ll be there!
