How to Order Coffee in Korean | 4 Korean Café Dialogues

안녕하세요 리더님! I'm Koreanstudyjunkie.

I bet many of you reading this have thought about what it will be like to order things at an actual café or restaurant in Korea.

In this lesson, I thought I'd include a few different dialogues to give you a glimpse into that exact scenario and how it might look during your time in Korea - some are shorter than others!

Dialogue A:

A: 안녕하세요. 주문하시겠어요?

B: 네. 카페라떼에 샷 하나 추가해 주세요.

A: 어떤 크기로 하시겠어요?

B: 큰 걸로 주세요.

A: 예. 시럽 넣어 드릴까요?

B: 캐러멜 시럽 넣어 주세요.

A: 드시고 가실 건가요, 아니면 가져가실 건가요?

B: 가져갈 거예요.

Vocab List:

주문하다 - order

추가하다 - to add

어떤 - which

크기 - size

큰 걸 = 큰 것을 - big, big one

주다 - to give

넣다 - to add, put in

드시다 - to eat (honorific)

드시고 가다 = eat and go - eating at the café and then leaving

아니면 - or

가져가다 - to bring, take (eat outside café - take order with you)

ENGLISH VERSION:

A: Hi. May I take your order?

B: Yes. I'd like a cafe latte with an extra shot of espresso.

A: What size would you like?

B: I'll take the large (size), please.

A: Okay, would you like syrup in your latte?B: Caramel syrup, please.

A: Is this for here, or to go?

B: To go, please.

Dialogue B:

A: 커피 어떻게 드릴까요?

B: 설탕과 크림을 한 스푼씩 넣어 주세요.

A: 밀크커피로 드릴까요, 블랙으로 드릴까요?

B: 블랙으로 괜찮습니다!

Vocab List:

설탕 - sugar

크림 - cream

수푼 - spoon, spoonful

ENGLISH VERSION:

A: How do you like your coffee?

B: With one spoonful of sugar and one of cream, please.

A: Do you like your coffee with cream[milk] or black?

B: Black is fine!

A: 안녕하세요.

B: 안녕하세요. 아이스 아메리카노 가격이 얼마입니까?

A: 만원 듭니다.

B: 그렇군요. 그럼 아아 한잔 주세요

A: 네. 여기서 마실 겁니까?

B: 네!

Vocab List:

가격 - price

얼마 - how much..? (used for price only)

만 - 10,000

원 - Korean won (Korean currency)

듭니다 > 들다 - to cost

그렇군요 - I see

그럼 - then, in that case

아아 = 아이스 아메리카노

잔 - cups (counter for cups)

마시다 - to drink

ENGLISH VERSION:

A: Hello.

B: Hello How much is the iced americano?

A: It costs 10,000 won.

B: Ah, okay. Then please give me 1 iced americano.

A: Alright. Will you be drinking it here?

B: Yes

Dialogue D:

손님: 저기요~ 여기 주문할게요.

직원: 네, 말씀하세요.

손님: 커피 말고, 다른 음료 뭐 있어요?

직원: 스무디랑 티 종류도 있어요. 과일 스무디, 요거트 스무디 있고요, 차는 자몽차, 유자차, 녹차 있어요.

손님: 그럼… 망고 스무디 하나 주세요.

직원: 네, 망고 스무디 하나요. 테이크아웃이세요, 드시고 가세요?

손님: 아, 여기서 마실게요.

직원: 네~ 잠시만 기다려 주세요.

Vocab List:

저기요 - excuse me

말씀하다 - talk, say

말고 - other than, instead of

다르다 - different

음료 - beverage, drink

다른 음료 - different beverages

종류 - variety, type

테이크아웃 - take out

잠시만 - a moment, a brief moment

기다리다 - to wait

ENGLISH VERSION:

Customer: Excuse me~ I’d like to order here.

Staff: Sure, go ahead.

Customer: Besides coffee, what other drinks do you have?

Staff: We have smoothies and teas. We have fruit smoothies and yogurt smoothies. For tea, we have grapefruit tea, citron tea, and green tea.

Customer: Then… I’ll have one mango smoothie, please.

Staff: Okay, one mango smoothie. Is that to-go or for here?

Customer: Oh, I’ll drink it here.

Staff: Okay~ Please wait a moment.
