Today, I want to introduce 15 driving-related vocab words in Korean.

운전 = Driving

저는 운전을 배우고 있어요.

I’m learning how to drive.

운전 잘하세요?

Are you good at driving?

운전할 때 휴대폰을 보면 안 돼요.

You shouldn’t look at your phone while driving.

그는 10년 동안 운전했어요.

He has been driving for ten years.

운전면허 = Driver’s license

운전면허가 있나요?

Do you have a driver’s license?

저는 아직 운전면허를 못 땄어요.

I haven’t gotten my driver’s license yet.

운전면허 시험이 생각보다 어려웠어요.

The driving test was harder than I expected.

외국 운전면허를 한국 면허로 바꿀 수 있어요.

You can exchange a foreign driver’s license for a Korean one.

교통 = Traffic

지금 교통이 너무 막혀요.

Traffic is really heavy right now.

서울은 교통이 복잡해요.

Traffic in Seoul is complicated.

교통사고가 나서 길이 막혔어요.

There was a traffic accident, so the road is blocked.

신호등 = Traffic light

신호등이 빨간색이에요.

The traffic light is red.

신호등이 바뀌면 출발하세요.

Go when the light changes.

신호등을 무시하면 위험해요.

It’s dangerous to ignore traffic lights.

횡단보도 = Crosswalk

횡단보도에서 건너가세요.

Cross at the crosswalk.

횡단보도 앞에서는 항상 멈춰야 해요.

You must always stop before the crosswalk.

아이들이 횡단보도를 건너고 있어요.

Children are crossing the crosswalk.

도로 = Road / Street)

이 도로는 좁아요.

This road is narrow.

도로 공사 때문에 우회해야 해요.

You have to detour because of road construction.

도로가 미끄러워서 천천히 가세요.

The road is slippery, so drive slowly.

차선 = Lane

차선을 잘 지켜야 해요.

You must stay in your lane.

오른쪽 차선으로 이동하세요.

Move to the right lane.

차선을 변경할 때 신호를 켜세요.

Turn on your signal when changing lanes.

속도 = Speed

속도를 줄이세요.

Reduce your speed.

속도 제한이 50km예요.

The speed limit is 50 km/h.

너무 빠른 속도로 운전하면 위험해요.

Driving at high speed is dangerous.

주차 = Parking

여기 주차해도 돼요?

Can I park here?

주차 공간이 없어요.

There’s no parking space.

주차 요금은 한 시간에 2000원이에요.

Parking costs 2,000 won per hour.

차를 주차장에 세워 두었어요.

I left my car in the parking lot.

방향등 = Turn signal

방향등을 켜고 좌회전하세요.

Turn on your signal and make a left turn.

방향등을 안 켜서 놀랐어요.

I was surprised because they didn’t use their turn signal.

방향등이 고장 났어요.

The turn signal is broken.

내비게이션 = Navigation / GPS

내비게이션에 주소를 입력하세요.

Enter the address into the navigation.

내비게이션이 다른 길로 안내했어요.

The GPS directed me a different way.

내비게이션 덕분에 길을 잘 찾았어요.

Thanks to the navigation, I found the way easily.

교차로 = Intersection

교차로에서 좌회전하세요.

Turn left at the intersection.

교차로가 복잡하니까 조심하세요.

Be careful—the intersection is busy.

교차로마다 신호등이 있어요.

There are traffic lights at every intersection.

안전벨트 = Seat belt

안전벨트를 꼭 매세요.

Be sure to wear your seat belt.

안전벨트를 안 매면 벌금이에요.

You’ll get fined if you don’t wear your seat belt.

차가 출발하기 전에 안전벨트를 확인하세요.

Check your seat belt before the car starts.

브레이크 = Brake

브레이크를 밟으세요.

Step on the brake.

브레이크가 너무 민감해요.

The brakes are too sensitive.

갑자기 브레이크를 밟지 마세요.

Don’t brake suddenly.

사고 = Accident

어제 작은 교통사고가 났어요.

There was a small traffic accident yesterday.

사고가 나서 차가 막혔어요.

The road was blocked because of an accident.

다행히 사고로 다친 사람은 없어요.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.
