안녕하세요 여러분! Welcome or welcome back to Koreanstudyjunkie. I’m Junie 쌤. We’re gonna be looking at different commonly used signs in Korea.

This is not an exhaustive list, so feel free to comment below more like this!

정지 = Stop

차가 신호에서 정지했어요.

The car stopped at the traffic light.

기차가 역 앞에서 정지했어요.

The train stopped in front of the station.

갑자기 차가 정지해서 놀랐어요.

I was surprised because the car suddenly stopped.

엘리베이터가 3층에서 정지했습니다.

The elevator stopped on the 3rd floor.

그는 음악을 듣다가 정지 버튼을 눌렀어요.

He pressed the stop button while listening to music.

주차 금지 = Parking Prohibited

여기는 주차 금지 구역이에요.

Parking is prohibited here.

이 도로는 주차 금지 구역이에요.

This road is a no parking zone.

경찰이 주차 금지 구역에 세운 차를 견인했어요.

The police towed the car parked in a no parking area.

주차 금지 표지를 못 봤어요.

I didn’t see the no parking sign.

병원 앞은 주차 금지니까 다른 곳에 세워야 해요.

You have to park somewhere else because parking is not allowed in front of the hospital.

미세요 = Please Push

문을 미세요.

Push the door.

이 문은 미는 문이에요.

This door is a push door.

문을 세게 미지 마세요.

Don’t push the door too hard.

문을 미니까 쉽게 열렸어요.

When I pushed the door, it opened easily.

유리문을 조심해서 미세요.

Push the glass door carefully.

당기세요 = Please Pull

문을 당기세요.

Pull the door.

이 문은 당겨야 열려요.

You have to pull this door to open it.

손잡이를 잡고 세게 당기세요.

Hold the handle and pull strongly.

문을 잘못 밀었어요, 사실 당겨야 해요.

I pushed the door by mistake—it’s actually a pull door.)

당기세요라고 써 있잖아요.

It says “pull,” doesn’t it?

금연구역 = Smoking Prohibited

여기는 금연구역입니다.

This is a non-smoking area.

버스 정류장은 금연구역이에요.

The bus stop is a non-smoking area.

이 건물 전체가 금연구역입니다.

The entire building is a non-smoking area.

금연구역에서 담배를 피우면 벌금이에요.

You’ll be fined if you smoke in a non-smoking area.

금연구역 안내문이 벽에 붙어 있어요.

A non-smoking sign is posted on the wall.

일방통행 = One Way

이 골목은 일방통행이에요.

This alley is one-way.

이 도로는 일방통행이라서 뒤로 못 가요.

This street is one-way, so you can’t go back.

일방통행 표지를 못 봤어요.

I didn’t see the one-way sign.

일방통행길에서 반대로 들어오면 위험해요.

It’s dangerous to enter the wrong way on a one-way street.

일방통행이라 돌아가야 해요.

It’s one-way, so we have to go around.

진입금지 = Entry Is Prohibited

여기는 진입금지 구역입니다.

No entry here.

공사 중이라 진입금지예요.

Entry is prohibited due to construction.

이 도로는 차량 진입금지입니다.

No vehicle entry is allowed on this road.

진입금지 표지를 못 보고 들어갔어요.

I went in without seeing the no entry sign.

위험 구역이라 진입금지예요.

It’s a danger zone, so entry is prohibited.

우회전 금지 = Right Turn Prohibited

이 교차로에서는 우회전 금지예요.

Right turn is prohibited at this intersection.

신호등이 있을 때는 우회전 금지예요.

You can’t turn right when the traffic light is red.

경찰이 우회전 금지 구역을 단속하고 있어요.

The police are monitoring the no right turn area.

우회전 금지 표시가 잘 안 보여요.

The no right turn sign isn’t very visible.

이 길에서는 우회전 금지라 직진해야 해요.

You have to go straight because right turns are not allowed here.

좌회전 금지 = Left Turn Prohibited

여기서 좌회전 금지예요.

No left turn here.

좌회전 금지 표지가 있어서 오른쪽으로 돌았어요.

There was a no left turn sign, so I turned right instead.

출근 시간에는 좌회전 금지예요.

Left turns are not allowed during rush hour.

좌회전 금지 구역에서 돌면 벌점이에요.

You’ll get penalty points if you turn left in a no left turn area.

경찰이 좌회전 금지 구간을 단속 중이에요.

The police are monitoring the no left turn section.

횡단보도 = Crosswalk

횡단보도로 건너가세요.

Cross at the crosswalk.

신호가 바뀌면 횡단보도를 건너세요.

Cross the crosswalk when the light changes.

횡단보도 앞에서는 항상 멈춰야 해요.

You must always stop before the crosswalk.

어린이들이 횡단보도를 건너고 있어요.

Children are crossing the crosswalk.

횡단보도에 사람이 있으면 양보하세요.

Yield if someone is on the crosswalk.

입구 = Entry way

입구는 저쪽이에요.

The entrance is over there.

입구가 공사 중이라 다른 문으로 가세요.

The entrance is under construction, so use another door.

입구 앞에 줄이 길어요.

There’s a long line in front of the entrance.

이쪽은 직원 전용 입구예요.

This is the staff entrance.

입구에 표지판이 세워져 있어요.

There’s a sign set up at the entrance.

출구 = Exit

출구는 반대편에 있어요.

The exit is on the other side.

비상 출구는 오른쪽에 있습니다.

The emergency exit is on the right.

출구 근처에서 기다릴게요.

I’ll wait near the exit.

지하철 출구 번호를 잘 확인하세요.

Check the subway exit number carefully.

공연이 끝나고 출구로 나가세요.

Please exit through the exit after the performance.
