사랑해요 // Saranghaeyo
You’ve probably heard this in many Korean dramas. It means “Love”.
Here is the base form of this verb: 사랑하다 (saranghada) = to love
Conjugations:
Formal - 사랑합니다
Casual/Polite - 사랑해요
Informal - 사랑해
If you put the into a translator, you are likely to get the response: I Love You
HOWEVER, you can specify WHO you love by whatever you put before it.
당신 - you
너 - you
당신 사랑해요 - I love YOU
너 사랑해요
I love [insert name]
수지 사랑해요 - I love Suji
수빈 사랑해요 - I love Soobin
WHAT YOU CANT USE THIS WORD FOR
You actually can’t use this verb to say that you love a THING.
I love pizza - 피자 사랑해요 (this is incorrect / unnatural)
Instead, you would use the word for “to like”
I love pizza / I like pizza - 피자 좋아해요.
You can add adverbs in between these 2 words to indicate how much..
진짜 - really
진짜 좋아해요 - I really like (blank).
That’s it for today’s post!
