100 Most Common Korean Nouns w/ Examples | Beginner and Intermediate Vocabulary Lists

Before we dive in..


When people see “most common” they have a certain expectation. The truth is, “most common” mdoesn’t just refer to 100 or 200 or even 500 words. In most languages, the most common words extend upwards of 1-2000 (and even more than that usually)!


I’m only mentioning this to say that I tried to mix in common words that were not TOO common - if you get what I mean. That way, not just BEGINNERS, but also intermediate learners will see words they haven’t learned yet as well!



사람 = person

  1. 집 — house

  2. 시간 — time

  3. 날 — day

  4. 물 — water

  5. 친구 — friend

  6. 학교 — school

  7. 선생님 — teacher

  8. 음식 — food

  9. 일 — work / job / task



Example Sentences:


그 사람은 정말 친절한 사람이에요.

That person is really kind.


오늘은 날이 너무 좋아서 산책하고 싶어요.

The weather is so nice today that I want to take a walk.


요즘 일이 많아서 너무 바빠요.

I have a lot of work these days, so I’m very busy.


어제는 중요한 날이었어요.

Yesterday was an important day.


그 사람은 무슨 일을 하는지 알아요?

Do you know what kind of work that person does?




생각 = thought, idea

  1. 문제 — problem / question

  2. 이야기 — story / conversation

  3. 자리 — seat / place / spot

  4. 경험 — experience

  5. 기회 — opportunity

  6. 상황 — situation

  7. 사회 — society

  8. 문화 — culture

  9. 관계 — relationship



Example Sentences:


그 생각은 정말 좋은 것 같아요.

I think that idea is really good.


여기 자리에 앉아도 될까요?

Can I sit in this seat?


한국에서 일할 기회를 얻고 싶어요.

want to get an opportunity to work in Korea.


우리는 좋은 관계를 유지하고 있어요.

We are maintaining a good relationship.


다시 생각해 보니까 그게 맞는 것 같아요.

After thinking again, I think that’s right.




결과 = result

  1. 이유 — reason

  2. 방법 — method / way

  3. 태도 — attitude

  4. 성격 — personality

  5. 책임 — responsibility

  6. 효과 — effect

  7. 목표 — goal

  8. 실수 — mistake

  9. 의견 — opinion



Example Sentences:


시험 결과가 생각보다 좋았어요.

My test results were better than expected.


그는 항상 긍정적인 태도를 가지고 있어요.

He always has a positive attitude.


이 일에 대한 책임은 제가 질게요.

I’ll take responsibility for this.


제 의견은 조금 달라요.

My opinion is a bit different.


결과보다 과정과 태도가 더 중요해요.

The process and attitude are more important than the result.




판단 = judge, judgement

  1. 노력 — effort

  2. 변화 — change

  3. 환경 — environment

  4. 약속 — appointment / plans

  5. 날씨 — weather

  6. 기분 — mood / feeling

  7. 연락 — contact

  8. 준비 — preparation

  9. 쓰레기 — trash



Example Sentences:


빠른 판단이 필요해요.

A quick judgment is needed.


그는 목표를 위해 열심히 노력하고 있어요.

He is working hard toward his goal.


이 동네는 환경이 정말 좋아요.

The environment in this neighborhood is really nice.


나중에 다시 연락할게요.

I’ll contact you later.


쓰레기는 꼭 분리해서 버려야 해요.

You must separate the trash before throwing it away.




청소 = clean, cleaning

  1. 세제 — detergent

  2. 걸레 — rag / cleaning cloth

  3. 먼지 — dust

  4. 세탁 — laundry

  5. 숙제 — homework

  6. 시험 — exam

  7. 수업 — class

  8. 교재 — textbook

  9. 공책 — notebook



Example Sentences:


오늘 집 청소를 해야 해요.

I need to clean the house today.


이 세제는 냄새가 좋아요.

This detergent smells good.


바닥은 걸레로 닦아 주세요.

Please wipe the floor with a cloth.


주말마다 세탁을 해요.

I do laundry every weekend.


한국어 교재를 새로 샀어요.

I bought a new Korean textbook.




필기 = notes, note-taking

  1. 질문 — question

  2. 현금 — cash

  3. 카드 — card

  4. 계좌 — bank account

  5. 잔액 — balance

  6. 송금 — transfer

  7. 수수료 — fee

  8. 인출 — withdrawal

  9. 입금 — deposit



Example Sentences:


수업 시간에 중요한 내용은 꼭 필기하세요.

Make sure to take notes on important content during class.


저는 보통 현금보다 카드를 더 많이 써요.

I usually use cards more than cash.


한국에서 계좌를 만들었어요.

I opened a bank account in Korea.


해외 송금에는 수수료가 있어요.

There is a fee for international transfers.


필기를 잘하면 공부에 도움이 돼요.

Taking good notes helps with studying.




주문 = order

  1. 음료 — drink

  2. 물컵 — water cup

  3. 빨대 — straw

  4. 영수증 — receipt

  5. 포장 — takeout / packaging

  6. 반찬 — side dishes

  7. 식사 — meal

  8. 출구 — exit

  9. 입구 — entrance



Example Sentences:


키오스크로 음료를 주문했어요.

I ordered a drink using a kiosk.


이 음료는 너무 달아요.

This drink is too sweet.


빨대는 필요 없어요.

I don’t need a straw.


이거 포장해 주세요.

Please make this to-go.


출구가 어디예요?

Where is the exit?




화장실 = restroom

  1. 계산대 — checkout counter

  2. 창구 — service window / counter (bank, post office)

  3. 매장 — store

  4. 좌석 — seat

  5. 테이블 — table

  6. 예약 — reservation

  7. 학원 — academy / cram school

  8. 폰 — phone (casual for 휴대폰)

  9. 사진 — photo



Example Sentences:


화장실이 어디에 있어요?

Where is the restroom?


계산대에서 결제하면 됩니다.

You can pay at the counter.


이 좌석에 앉아도 될까요?

Can I sit in this seat?


식당을 미리 예약했어요.

I made a reservation at the restaurant in advance.


예약 없이 들어갈 수 있나요?

Can we enter without a reservation?




음악 = music

  1. 영상 — video

  2. 게임 — game

  3. 캐릭터 — character

  4. 아이돌 — idol (K-pop idol)

  5. 노래 — song

  6. 앨범 — album

  7. 굿즈 — merch / goods

  8. 단톡 — group chat (short for 단체 채팅)

  9. 약속 — plans / appointment



Example Sentences:


저는 공부할 때 음악을 들어요.

I listen to music when I study.


재미있는 영상을 많이 봐요.

I watch a lot of interesting videos.


요즘 이 게임에 빠졌어요.

I’m into this game these days.


좋아하는 아이돌 굿즈를 샀어요.

I bought merch of my favorite idol.


친구들이랑 단톡에서 계속 얘기해요.

I keep chatting with my friends in the group chat.




회사 = company

  1. 출근 — going to work

  2. 퇴근 — leaving work

  3. 야근 — overtime work

  4. 회의 — meeting

  5. 업무 — work tasks / duties

  6. 보고서 — report

  7. 월급 — salary

  8. 계약 — contract

  9. 휴가 — vacation / leave



Example Sentences


저는 한국 회사에서 일하고 있어요.

I work at a Korean company.


아침 9시에 출근해요.

I go to work at 9 a.m.


보통 6시에 퇴근해요.

I usually get off work at 6.


오늘은 업무가 너무 많아요.

I have too much work today.


이번 달 월급이 벌써 나왔어요.

This month’s salary already came out.
