안녕하세요 여러분! Today I am bringing you an Interesting concept. There are korean words that make sense flipped and by learning them you are essentially getting to know double the vocab.
Vocabulary List w/ Examples:
도시 - city
시도 - attempt, try
Ex:
이 도시에는 약 200만 명이 살고 있습니다. = About two million people live in this city.
어떻게 해야 할지 모르겠지만 그냥 시도해 볼게. = I don´t know how to do this, but I´ll just do it.
소주 - soju
주소 - address
Ex:
저는 소주 반 병 정도밖에 못 마셔요. = I can only drink half a bottle of soju.
주소가 어떻게 되죠? = What is your address?
아무도 그의 주소를 모른다 = No one knows his address.
감독 - director, coach; supervisor
독감 - flu
Ex:
누가 이 일을 감독하고 있습니까? = Who is supervising[overseeing] this job?
독감에 걸리는 사람이 많아! = There's a lot of people catching the flu!
물건 - thing, item
건물 - buildings
Ex:
필요 없는 물건들은 쌓아 두지 말고 버려! = Don't collect things you don't need, throw it away!
제일 오래된 학교 건물은 약 100년 전에 세워졌어요. = The oldest school building was built about one hundred years ago.
신문 - newspaper
문신 - tattoo
Ex:
아침마다 신문을 돌려요. = I deliver newspapers every morning.
그의 왼팔에는 뱀 문신이 있어. = He has a tattoo of a snake on his left arm.
계단 - stairs
단계 - phase, step
Ex:
엘리베이터가 고장 나서 나는 계단을 이용해야 했어요. = Because the elevator was out of service, I had to take the stairs.
다음 단계로 넘어갑시다 = Let's move on to the next step.
생일 - birthday
일생 - life, lifetime
Ex:
생일이 언제예요? = When's your birthday?
그녀는 생일 선물로 휴대전화를 받았어요. = She got a cellphone as a birthday present.
우리는 지난 주말에 그녀의 생일 파티를 했습니다. = We had a birthday party last weekend.
나는 일생 그날을 잊지 못할 거야. = I shall not forget that day as long as I live.
너랑 남은 일생을 함께하고 싶어 = I want to be with you until the end. (of my life)
온수 - warm water
수온 - water temperature
Ex:
온수가 안 나온다. = Hot water is not coming out.
나는 집에 온수가 나오지 않아서 차가운 물로 머리를 감았어 = I had no hot water at home, so I washed my hair with cold water.
여름이 되면 기온이 높아지면서 강물의 수온도 크게 올라간다 = In summer, the temperature rises and the water temperature of the river rises significantly
선생 - teacher, instructor
생선 - fish
Ex:
승규는 어릴 때부터 국어를 좋아하더니 국어 선생이 되었어요. = Seungyu liked languages since he was younger, and he became a teacher.
이 생선은 가시가 많습니다. =This fish has a lot of bones in it.
기회 - opportunity
회기 - session
Ex:
기회를 놓치다 = to miss an opportunity, to miss a chance
정기 모임의 회기는 10일부터 15일까지입니다. = The session of the regular meeting runs from the 10th to the 15th.
