자고 하다 Lesson = He/She/I Suggested..

In this lesson, we’ll learn how to quote suggestions in Korean.

자고 하다 = suggested, asked, told
Usage: citing one‘s suggestion or advice indirectly
CONJUGATION:
V + 자고 하다
가자 --> 가자고 하다
먹자 --> 먹자고 하다
놀자 --> 놀자고 하다
Example Sentences:
친구: 우리 주말에 같이 공부해요.
친구가 주말에 같이 공부하자고 했어요.
My friend suggested me to study together on the weekend.
수지: 우리 같이 운동하자!
수지가 같이 운동하자고 했어요.
Suzy suggested us to exercise together.
토니: 시간 되면 커피를 한잔 마십시다.
토니 씨가 시간 되면 커피를 한잔 마시자고 했어요
He suggested let’s drink a cup of coffee if you have the time
가: 지훈 씨가 뭐라고 했어요?
나: 같이 한국 음식을 만들자고 했어요.
A: What did Jihoon say?
B: He suggested (us) to make Korean food together.
가: 갑자기 여행을 왜 취소하셨어요?
나: 아, 내일 비가 올 것 같으니 가지 말자고 했어요.
A: Why did you cancel your trip all of a sudden?
B: Oh, it was going to rain tomorrow so I suggested to cancel it.
CONJUGATION: Negative
V + 지 말자고 하다
가지 말자 --> 가지 말자고 하다
먹지 말자 --> 먹지 말자고 하다
놀지 말자 --> 놀지 말자고 하다
The 하다 can be replaced with:
제안하다 - to suggest

1). My friend suggested that we watch a movie.
2). I suggested to Minho to watch this drama with me.
3). My friend suggested that we not watch this movie. He said it‘s not interesting.
4). My dad suggested we eat at a new Korean restaurant, because he didn't like the one we went to last time.
5). I suggested to my family that we take a trip to Denmark, because there's a place (곳) I really want to go.
6). Minjun suggested that we not read a Korean novel, since they are really hard to read.
7). My friend told Tyler not to study Korean. She suggested that he study Japanese, since he loves Anime.
8). My friend asked why I was late.
9). 선생님이 한국어를 배운 지 얼마나 됐냐고 물어보셨어요.
10). The students said this grammar isn't as difficult as they thought.
11). My friend asked what I would do during vacation.
12). 선생님이 매일 복습해야 한다고 했어요.
13). The doctor told me to exercise more.
14). 학생들이 앞으로 한국어만 사용하겠다고 했어요.

1). 제 친구가 영화를 보자고 했어요.
2). 저는 민호에게 이 드라마를 같이 보자고 했어요.
3). 제 친구가 이 영화를 보지 말자고 (제안)했어요. 재미없다고 했어요.
4). 아빠께서 지난번에 간 한식당이 마음에 들지 않은데 새로운 한식당에서 먹자고 하셨어요.
5). 꼭 가고 싶은 곳이 있는데 가족에게 덴마크로 여행을 가자고 제안했어요.
6). 민준이는 한국 소설이 정말 읽기 어려운데 읽지 말자고 (제안)했어요.
7). 제 친구가 타일러에게 한국어를 공부하지 말라고 했어요. 타일러는 애니메이션을 너무 좋아하니까 일본어를 공부하자고 했어요.
8). 친구가 왜 늦었냐고 물어봤어요.
9). The teacher asked how long I've been learning Korean.
10). 학생들이 이 문법이 생각보다 어렵지 않다고 했어요.
11). 친구가 이번 방학에 뭐 할 거냐고 물어봤어요.
12). The teacher said we have to review every day.
13). 의사가 운동을 더 하라고 했어요.
14). The students said they would only use Korean from now on.
